10 Hour Layover in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport

Because I booked the cheapest flight I ended up having a 10 hour layover at Schiphol’s Airport. I was actually traveling from Cairo, Egypt back to NYC on March 19, 2021.

So before COVID I would usually love these layovers cause I could freely and safely leave the airport to explore, but this time I couldn’t leave airport due to COVID restrictions. Although I’ve visited Amsterdam before there are still things I’d loved to do.

Well I wanted to make the best out of my 10 hour layover at Schiphol.

Here is a recap of my 10 Hour Layover at Amsterdam’s Airport Schiphol on March 19th 2021:

🔶Arrived at Schiphol at 4:55 AM & I slept for a few hours. They have comfy leather chairs there.

🔷Took a 🤳

🔶Watch the Sunrise & stalk planes flying.

🔷Spent some time at the Ruks Museum.

🔶Had a Dutch breakfast at Tastes from the Lowlands.

🔷Educated myself on the Dutch history at the Airport’s library.

So my birth Country Guyana in South America was this massive country at one point then it got split into three countries – British Guyana (where I am from), French Guiana and then Suriname (Dutch Guyana). I always wondered if I may have distant family somehow in Amsterdam.

The reason I said that is because I know of a lot of people who moved from Guyana to Suriname then to Aruba to work in the hotel industry. As you know Aruba is under the Dutch regime so college students in Aruba can go to Holland/Netherland for their education.

A percentage of Aruba’s funds goes towards education.

I hope this blog was helpful and please reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you!
