20 hours layover in Lisbon, Portugal itinerary

I’d in particular wanted to explore Belém (a historical neighborhood in Lisbon).

Here is my 20 hours itinerary on how I spent my time in Lisbon, Portugal that perhaps could be helpful with planning your visit as well!

September 25, 2022:

🔶Flew into Lisbon, Portugal- Humberto Delgado International Airport at 10:25 AM.

🔷This was my 2nd time visiting Lisbon so I had an idea on how to navigate in this affordable European country.

🔶 Stayed a night at VIP Executive Art’s hotel, which is about a 9 minute or so cab/uber ride from the airport.

It’s perfect if you have an early flight. The hotel itself is lovely with a huge art mural on the wall as you entered. Plus inside the lobby has a ton of artwork display. There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel as well. Definitely enjoy a glass of port wine and the artwork.

🔷So I’d booked my free tour through GuruWalk to explore Belém. You can book via the app or traditional website.

Below are a few spots I’d explored with a group of 13 other super duper curious 🧐 travelers from around the world.

📍 Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Statue dedicated to Henry the navigator and the peeps/team who’d helped him succeed).

Padrão dos Descobrimentos

📍 Jerónimos Monastery (Gothic like monastery; here is where the monks stayed back in the days).

Jerónimos Monastery

📍 Tagus River in the Iberia Peninsula (Portugal was lit 🔥 back in the days for its trading port center…the river was godly).

📍Statue of Afonso de Albuquerque (this dude sailed/navigated to Goa/India). Portugal ruled Goa for a long long time until the two countries started barking at each other.

📍 Sala Thai Gold temple gifted by Thailand. The cultural relationship between the Thai and Portuguese is impeccable.

These tours are amazing cause you get to explore with a local Portuguese. I’d had the opportunity to tour with Claudia. She was awesome and passionate about her city.

I’d also had the opportunity to meet two other solo female travelers. I’d met Shruti from India and Valeria from Costa Rica.

🔶 The food and wine scenery is beyond delightful and pretty affordable in Lisbon.

And because I’m a budget traveler this is how I’d satisfied my hunger and thirst on a $25 USD budget.

▫️Had an egg custard tart at the original and famous Pastéis de Belém restaurant.

▫️Enjoyed grilled sardines at Queijadas de Belém.

▫️Drank a few Ginja (Popular Portuguese shots with sometimes a cherry on the bottom).

▫️Enjoyed a few glasses of Portuguese Port wine.

Hopeful this blog gives you a taste of how beautiful Belém in Lisbon, Portugal is all about.
