19 hours layover in Lima, Peru Itinerary

⚪️This was my 2nd time visiting Lima so I had an idea on how to navigate in this affordable South American city.

⚪️Here is my 19 hours itinerary on how I spent my time in Lima, Peru that perhaps could be helpful with planning your visit as well!

⚪️Flew into Lima, Peru (LIM-Jorge Chavez Intl.) Airport at 7:25 AM.

Flew with LATAM – it’s a budget friendly airline

⚪️Stayed at Padama Hotel located in Callao, Lima. With my rewards point I’d paid $17 USD.

Sweet Deal!

⚪️Callao is a town located directly by the airport.

⚪️Lots of restaurants nearby where you can dined. Happily devoured a local Peruvian cuisine for $5 USD.

Enjoyed Peruvian Plantain Chips

⚪️Cabs booked directly in the airport was 40 Peruvian Sol equivalent to $10 USD; but using Uber was ~ 60% cheaper as I learned later.

⚪️Used “My Language” app to communicate with the locals. I’m not fluent in Spanish.

⚪️Lets go!!…😛

⚪️Booked a day tour with @hakutours. This was a cultural experience, where I was given the opportunity to share a few daily activities with the locals living in an isolated village in Lima, Peru.

Vibing with a local

⚪️Although I was being cautious with my stomach, I did put the effort in with sampling the local food and beverages in one of the local markets.

⚪️And because the altitude kicked my ass, I had to take a tuk tuk 🛺 up the hill. Los Sientos!

⚪️I did a half day tour and some volunteering at one of the shanty town outside of the city.

⚪️And I was happily welcomed by three Peruvian youngsters I was paired up with to do some fun activities my tour group prepared for us.

⚪️My heart smiled when they accepted my gifts with their parent’s permission.

👉🏽For Your Information:

⚪️Shanty towns can be found everywhere in the world predominantly in third world countries.

⚪️Life is challenging in these towns due to the lack of the basic essentials us human need to survive with on a daily basis.

⚪️I also mingled with the community leader. I was very inspired by her story in wanting to help the young children learn how to read and write. I have found out about her through an Indian couple I had met at the company I work at right before COVID. She was touched by their generosity and beautiful souls that she always wore the 🕉️ shirt they gifted her.
