Weekend Day trip from London, England to Cardiff, Wales Itinerary

When I’d visited London, England; I’d planned my trip in such a way that’ll allowed me a full day to explore Cardiff, Wales.

Here is my weekend day trip itinerary on how I spent my time in Cardiff that perhaps could be helpful with planning your visit as well!

Cardiff, Wales

June 28, 2025:

Read somewhere the Welsh lives by this powerful phrase, “Cymru am byth” (“Wales forever”) so I wanted to experience it…

And my day trip to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 on an early Saturday morning went like 👇🏾:

🚊 Took 8:48 AM express train from Paddington, London to Cardiff, Wales and arrived in 2 hours

🧁 Had delicious cupcakes at Lola’s

🤗First impressions of Cardiff were like this city is walkable, immediately felt “Welsh raindrop” on my forehead 🙈, Welsh language was unique, lots of eateries, landscapes, castles, churches, gorgeous and friendly Welsh people all over…yay!

☕️Grabbed breakfast at Uncommon Ground Coffee Roastery, a cafe owned and operated by two Welsh brothers. Absolutely, enjoyed fresh local coffee and blueberry toast.

⛪️ Somehow was invited to a small Welsh wedding ceremony at a local church

🍺 Enjoyed a few Welsh Wrexham Lagers at the Welsh House

🕉️For an early dinner, had an authentic vegetarian thali at Crispy Dosa Restaurant (Chennai, India). One of the Indian waiter mentioned that he’s studying for his MBA in Cardiff…apparently Wales and India 🇮🇳 has this culturally educational exchange program

Must have the most delicious Victoria sponge 🍰 in Cardiff…like soft sponge and light frosting is 😋

Excitedly toured the inside of Cardiff’s Castle. I’d especially enjoyed seeing the Arab room. Visiting this castle is a Victorian medieval fever dream.

Interesting fact regarding Cardiff and the Bute’s was that the first million pound check was written at the Coal Exchange in 1909 during the coal boom years.

Also, I was able to snagged a ticket to see Sting performed that evening at the castle.
