NYC → Weekend vibes! Loving the ride on Amtrak! Thank you! Bollywood tunes on repeat!

Day 1: January 31, 2026

Easy public train ride, a night at Hamilton hotel, D.C. booked with points, and an unforgettable Nepalese dinner at Himalayan Doko (vegetable samosas, mild lamb vindaloo, and masala tea).

Museum hopping in DC brought me back to elementary school day trips – curious classmates, watchful NYC teachers, and learning just for the joy of it. This time, I visited Air and Space Museum, where Friendship 7’s “fourth orbit” world tour included its arrival in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), once greeted by an elephant. I soaked in every IMAX show on  space, Earth, and future possibilities. 

At National Portrait Gallery, I saw Stephen Spielberg and paused for a grateful selfie. 

Day 2: February 1, 2026

Topped it off with Southern comfort Sunday brunch at Sweet Home Café (fried chicken, collard greens, beans) inside National Museum of African American History and Culture. Truly a treat. 

I ended at the Emmett Till Memorial National Museum of African American History and Culture remembering a high school research paper that first taught me how to truly study history.

Seeing how American history is preserved reminds me how resilience evolves, but never disappears.
