How to plan a solo trip to Mexico City?
“I’ll look back at this and smile because it was life and I decided to live…”

What inspired me to visit Mexico City?
Aside from Mexico City being named one of the top global destination to visit, I’ve alway been so fascinated by it’s…
- History such as the breathtaking Teotihuacan ruin and important Aztec
- Art galleries and street art (Especially Frida Kahlo’s and Diego’s famous murals)
- Museums (Mexico City is known to have the most museums in the world especially some of the city’s best contemporary art work)
- Most delicious and tasty tacos (Street food at its finest)
- Lively neighborhoods including the Zocalo, National Palace, Plaza Garibaldi and Angel of Independence
- Mexico City is consider to be one of the cheapest and easiest city to get to when traveling from North America especially for a New Yorker like myself
Where to stay in Mexico City?
If you are a solo female traveler like myself planning on visiting Mexico City then safety should be your top priority. For me, best practice is to stay at a high end hotel in the heart of the city. I usually do my best to book a hotel that also have a bar, restaurant and possibly Live entertainment.
Luckily I was able to make reservation to stay for three nights at the Sheraton Mexico City Maria Isabel Hotel. Now this hotel is about a 2 minute walk from the Angel of Independence monument and 20 minutes from the Chapultepec Castle.
The Sheraton hotel also offers a few restaurants, two bars, live mirachi band and an outdoor pool. Now that’s a beautiful package.
What’s the best and safest traveling options when in Mexico City?
As a result of my research and please be aware that I’d leveraged statics provided by other travelers.
I’m convince that the safest and cheapest ways to get around in Mexico City would be through the usage of Uber and the hop on hop off bus.
Considering the traffic in Mexico City is insane, it would be highly recommended and economically smart to use Uber since I would imagine there is a fix price and most importantly these drivers and their vehicles should have registered and successfully satisfy the safety criteria.
The plan is to use Uber to commute from the airport to my hotel and via versa and for other possible adhoc commute.
From experiences, I’ve found that by utilizing the city’s hop on hop off bus is the best way to scope out the top tourist sites. It’s even better if you invest in a day pass and dedicate a day to do some sightseeing.
Are you on a budget?
I’ve always been a budget traveler taking into consideration I too have adult responsibilities.
I’d used Expedia bundle deal to book my round trip flight tickets and hotel. The cost of my trip was $513.17.
Now that’s an amazing deal! The best time I find to score decent prices are on Wednesdays.
Should you have an itinerary? Or just go with the flow?
I’m the type of traveler who likes to plan ahead and have a detailed itinerary on how I spend my day. This makes me stress free and allow me to enjoy myself to the fullest.
Hence, I notice the more I travel the more I’m aware of what makes me more efficient.
What does my 3 day itinerary includes?

- House of Tiles
- Zocalo
